Napoli before we FLY HOME!

Image
The buildings are OLD with large castle type doors. No worries, to get in, a smaller door is cut into the large one! You will need the code! Galleria Umberto Piazza del Plebiscito near the Palace of Naples. Jerry is practicing his Italian...mostly with hand gestures. We drank plenty of Campari Sprits, Negroni's,  & wine the past two weeks. The city is BUSY and full of scooters, motorcycles, cars & people! Diane & Jerry end the night with gelato. Diane deserves a treat as she had another doctor's appointment to get the OKAY to fly after her retina tear. The doctor repeated the word "BRUTO" meaning it was a BAD tear, but the laser surgeon in the Dolomites did and excellent job and she got clearance to FLY HOME! Leaving our hotel at 3:45AM for our flight back home.

Cruising Capri

Mario, our boat driver for the day. We were pretty impressed with the pickleball court on the yacht! The skill of the boat drivers were incredible. Everyone takes their turn to see the cave.  Some of the captains have priority and bust the line.

Positano - Day 2- Boat Trip along the Coast

Image
Sebastian picks us up at the busy dock. We spent quite a bit of time with him. He was a dreamer and trying to figure out how to get rich...quick.  Diane enjoying the view while cruising the coast. College buddies are now travel buddies.  Heading to La Tonnarella for lunch. Sofia Loren used to own a villa near here and in the '60's Jacqueline Kennedy often ate at the restaurant. There is even a spaghetti dish named after her, "Spaghetti Jacqueline Style." It has bacon, basil, cheese & zucchini and was really YUMMY!

Arrive in Positano!

Image
Color coordinated for our first dinner out in Positano. Welcome champagne... and Mike listens to the Husker football game. We lost to MN. Nebbia's get the upstairs bedroom...it was a hike up a spiral staircase! We were in the HEART of it. Nice when we met our boat in the morning, but chaos with tourists! Right outside our villa was a shoemaker. Many brides near the church when we arrived. Dani, our coordinator for the VILLA. She and Jerry had a LOT of communications via What's App. Steep stone steps to get everywhere and anywhere! View from dinner on the first night. Still listing to the Huskers.

Pompei via Mike's FB Posts!

The stones in the walls are placed in a diamond pattern to provide structural strength for earthquakes. Plaster casts were made by injecting voids in the ash to reveal people, animals, and other items entombed after the eruption. Mount Vesuvius in the background gives way to one of the main roads into Pompeii. You can see the ruts in the roads that were cut with the wheels of carts. One of the many penis emblems found above the doors of homes and depicted in frescos. It was a symbol of health and vitality. Water flowed into the city using gravity. The tall vertical column with the cut out behind the fountain was used to control water pressure flowing downhill. You will see these every few blocks down the street. All of the walls in the home were painted with frescos. This wall was just uncovered in the last five years. The fresco of the man with the scale and his (you know what) is seen in many homes. The meaning is “Balance health with wealth”. Another fresco depicting the delic...

Nebbia's @Doctor Drop Off

Image
Diane & Jerry had to spend the night in Naples so that Diane could have her eye (retina tear) examined. Mike & I went onto Pompei. It was DARK when the cab dropped them off at this strange door. I think the driver was even worried about leaving them there in the dark and waited until they entered. Diane took a pic of the door the next day.
