The stones in the walls are placed in a diamond pattern to provide structural strength for earthquakes.

Plaster casts were made by injecting voids in the ash to reveal people, animals, and other items entombed after the eruption.

Mount Vesuvius in the background gives way to one of the main roads into Pompeii. You can see the ruts in the roads that were cut with the wheels of carts.

One of the many penis emblems found above the doors of homes and depicted in frescos. It was a symbol of health and vitality.

Water flowed into the city using gravity. The tall vertical column with the cut out behind the fountain was used to control water pressure flowing downhill. You will see these every few blocks down the street.

All of the walls in the home were painted with frescos. This wall was just uncovered in the last five years. The fresco of the man with the scale and his (you know what) is seen in many homes. The meaning is “Balance health with wealth”.
